When Microsoft bought Nokia, along with it also bought the some of the world’s best mobile designing experts and engineers. Given the talent pool Microsoft had, it is rather disappointing to note that Microsoft never came up with a design that could compete with Android models.
After a gap of almost 2 years, when the last high end Lumia model was launched, Microsoft has once again come up with another model that the company claims would be at par with the flagship models of Apple and Samsung.
The new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are definitely much smarter, sleeker and better designed than the previous versions of Lumia models. Lumia 950 no longer spots the rainbow hue colours and comes in matte black and white colours with a metal edge. The only noticeable features are the silver Windows logo and the matching ring that surrounds the camera lens. Talking about the better aspects of the phone, the model has Microsoft ‘Hello’ features, which is iris recognition software. It is indeed a big leap, considering the safety and security of a phone. Microsoft’s new ‘Hello’ feature is a bit slow, but definitely way ahead of Apple’s finger print recognition system.
The Lumia 950 is the first phone from the house of Microsoft to be released with the Windows 10 update. The distinguishing part of the phone is the Continuum feature, which would turn a simple phone into full-fledged PC. In order to use this feature, you would be required to buy a display dock, a mouse, keyboard and a monitor. You just need to plug your phone and the peripherals of your TV on the dock and you can now have access to all your phone content on TV. Unfortunately only a handful of apps are available on the TV from these windows mobile.
Lumia 950 is quite a high end phone, but does not have features good enough to compete with the market leaders. Users still do not have access to popular apps like Google Mail, Google Maps and snapchats which can be a big drawback for the company.
