For all its users of Office 365, Microsoft has brought a new project management app, just like Trello and Asana, which enables the users to organize projects into collection of tasks called “Buckets” where they can be dragged and dropped in the project interface.
Planner has a strong emphasis on team collaboration and hence the tasks can be assigned to individual team members and the members can get an overall view of task responsibilities, progress and upcoming deadlines. The app has got a board based interface, which gives it an advantage over others in the way that it will be readily available to companies and teams using Office 365. Another key feature is “Hub” which enables to track the overall progress of plans and also allows you to filter down to see your own tasks and assignments.
The app also integrates with other Microsoft products like Outlook and OneNote. Thus, this is an app to be used both by big corporate and business owners. It is an easy to use app for even those who shy away from other such software but are familiar to Office products.
Though the app, in its initial phase is launched only for selected customers, but soon it will be officially launched into standard Office suite of apps. This will be available for users with Office 365 enterprise, Business Essentials, Premium and Education subscriptions. The users do not have to download it as it will be available in the Office 365 launcher itself.
Apart from this, there is more to come from Microsoft in the form of apps for Android, iOS and Windows. It can also bring features like reusable plan templates, external user access to your boards and enabling to assign a task to multiple users.
