In comparison to the third quarter of the preceding year, the Windows Phone market has registered some improvement. The improvements were particularly visible in UK market. It seems that mobile phone users have favoured the Windows Phones this time at the expense of others in the field.
The growth and improvement may not be large but in a highly competitive mobile phone market, it has got some major significance. Even the slightest improvement may mean profits of substantial amounts. This is exactly what has happened to Microsoft and their Lumia family smart phones.
During the current year, the position of Windows Phone has improved due to three basic reasons. The first two of them are introduction of the Windows 10 operating system that has a lot for the end users. A similar app that has helped the cause of Windows Phones in the user’s circles is the introduction of Office Suite 365 and a host of other apps like Cortana.
But the most prominent reason still remains the affordability of Windows Phones in comparison to many others in the market. Whether it is the entry level phones like the Microsoft Lumia 430 and Best Buy Lumia 435 or the newer Microsoft Lumia 530, middle range phones like the Microsoft Lumia 535 and Best Buy Lumia 735 or high end flagship phones like Microsoft Lumia 640 and 640 XL, the price is one factor where the company is nearly unbeatable. And they have even gone to the extent of cutting down prices of their flagship phones like the Microsoft Lumia 950 and the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL even before their arrival in the market.
According to the latest surveys conducted by the Kantar World Panel, the market share of Windows Phone has increased substantially during July to September this year. Market share of Microsoft in UK mobile phone market grew from 11% during the same period in 2014 to 11.3% during 2015. Perhaps that is what inspired Microsoft to be gracious for buyers in UK by cutting down their phone prices.
